In my professional life, as an Assistant Professor of History in the University of Rochester’s department of history, I am a researcher, teacher, and advisor. I am both an economic and social historian of modern Latin America (particularly Brazil) and of immigration history. I actively incorporate digital humanities and community-engaged coursework to foster a dynamic and welcoming classroom. I also serve as the coordinator and advisor for the University of Rochester’s Latin American Studies minor. As an advisor, I aim to help students best transition into, throughout and out of their undergraduate experience.
In my personal life, I am the mother to three wonderful children, ages 7, 10, and 12. Their resilience and questions amaze and exhaust me on a daily basis. Their curiosity constantly reminds me to be thinking about the next generation of historians. Finding some time to think can prove challenging, but I look to swimming and cooking for a good change of pace and always enjoy sitting on the porch and running into people I know in Rochester’s Southwedge.
